Ariels Tournament 2010 RESULTS

Ariels Tournament 14th March

Wow, 57 teams from 11 Associations. We had a terrific day, the weather was a little on the warm side but at least we didn’t have any hail storms. The trees around HE Parker make it a lovely venue on a hot day. For many teams it was their first tournament for the year, so lots of very excited girls running around and some pretty good netball as well. The 11/Unders had a great day out and there were some very close games in the other age groups. It was terrific to see representation in the finals from all Associations.

The Grand Final results were:
13/Under Reserve A
Richmond A won 10 to 4 against Yarra 2
13/Under Reserve B
CSWNA 3 won 7 to 6 against Prahran
13/Under Open
CSWNA 1 won 13 ro 12 against Mornington 1
15/Under Reserve
Yarra 3 won 9 to 8 against Parkville
15/Under Open
Yarra 1 won 10 to 5 against CSWNA 1
17/Under Reserve
Richmond won 9 to 6 against Altona
17/Under Open
Parkville won 14 to 7 against Yarra 1

There were some very exciting games and of course a draw in one of the semi’s. Thank you to all the umpires who stayed back and umpired the finals.
I would like to thank all those parents who gave up time to work on the BBQ, in the canteen, or doing other jobs. Some of our committee and parents worked tirelessly all day to make our tournament a success, without these people there would be no tournament. It was hot work on the BBQ and sometimes the canteen was ridiculously busy. We sold out of everything, probably at bit too early but at least we didn’t have food left over. I will ask the team managers to pass on our thanks as sometimes we were too busy to say thanks on the day. I have to say I was really impressed and grateful to see those Mums and Dads from the 15/3 & 15/4 waiting to help out at the 7:00am timeslot, with so many hands we were ready to go by 8:30.

Also a huge thank you to Sandy’s mum Betty who single handed sold over 400 raffle tickets. Congratulations to Rob & Michael respectively on winning the $100 and $50 Rebel Sport Vouchers, I have been in touch and yes the vouchers will be in the mail soon.

Sale Tournament May 2009

Last weekend three teams went to the Sale tournament.  We stayed overnight at Traralgon.

We had a great weekend.  Gemma came and chatted with us and watched a little during the day.

We were happy as the girls all came back with a trophy.  15/2's won their section which was a great boost for them as they are on the bottom of the ladder on Thursday night and the 15/1's & 13/1's were runners up.

Ariels players in Australian under 21 Team

Stephanie Puopolo, Shannon Eagland, Michaela Wilson

Lets congratulate these three girls for their selection in the 2011 under 21 Australian Squad and as the only Victorians in the team, well done girls. All three travelled to New Zealand recently to compete in the three test series against New Zealand. They all played brilliant games with Stephanie receiving player of the match in the third test. Steph is now off to Singapore next week to play in a competition as a curtain raiser for the Worlds.

Sarah Main has recently been called up to play in the 19U Australian Team – they are playing 3 games against the Samoan National Team on Fri, Sat and Sun at the AIS. Congratulations Sarah.

MICAELA WILSON PLAYS FOR VIXENS

Some exciting news from our squad of talented VNL players, with Micaela Wilson and Stephanie Puopolo picked in the Melbourne Vixens team and travelling to New Zealand for Monday night’s game against the Central Pulse. While both girls were excited just to be selected, the news got better for Micaela when she was named to start at goal keeper and played the entire game alongside Vixens co-captain Bianca Chatfield. The Vixens came from behind to snatch a 49-48 win. Their selection comes off the back of impressive seasons in Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels’ championship side, with Stephanie dominating in goals and currently sitting third on the league goal shooting table, while Micaela has held down the goal keeper position in a team set to play finals in just a few weeks’ time. Both players have been with Ariels since their early junior netball years.
